After its premiere at New Directors/New Films and screening including Rotterdam, Milan, and Rooftop Films, Shannon Plumb’s TOWHEADS was selected for inclusion in the first-ever New York Times Online Indie Film Festival, premiered in LA at The Cinefamily and had a week-long run at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The film found digital distribution in the Sundance Institute’s Artist Services program.
TOWHEADS is a universally funny, tender and fearless observation of a mom, played with exquisite humor and depth by Plumb, on the brink of losing her grip on reality. As Penelope, our matriarch and heroine, valiantly copes with her earthly duties, she slips into her own dimension of fantasy and play in her earnest endeavor to lighten her mood and dig out of her current funk. Orbiting around her are her faceless husband, played by real-life spouse Derek Cianfrance (director of The Place Beyond the Pines), and their real-life towheaded cherubs, Cody and Walker. While imbuing her performance with a Chaplinesque genre of physical humor, Plumb’s subtle, internal execution of her role opens each scenario in the film to wide interpretation by the viewer. Reminiscent of Antonioni’s
