PlayCo complements its production season with an eclectic series of stand-alone events, including reading presentations of plays and literature, evenings that examine a particular topic through the work of a variety of prose and poetry writers and/or other media, and panel discussions featuring theatre artists, writers, scholars and community leaders.
The Play Company presents the U.S premiere of Oh My Sweet Land, written and directed by Amir Nizar Zuabi from his experiences traveling amongst Syrian refugee camps in Jordan. This one woman show, starring Nadine Malouf, will be staged in home kitchens and community spaces throughout the 5 boroughs and New Jersey creating a theatrical experience that will be close, personal and lift what’s happening in Syria out of the news cycle and into a simple human interaction that allows us to hear and feel in a different way
Join us On September, Saturday 23d, for a conversation with Avigail Ziv, Executive Director of the IRC’s New York office to know more about the resettlement work that they’re doing on the tri state area and how you can take action.
Performance starts at 7:30 pm, running time is 65 minutes. Idea Lab starts right after the show.
IRC
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. Almost 40 country offices around the globe provide life-saving services and almost 30 IRC field offices across the United States grant refugee and asylee families access to a set of holistic services that incorporate case management, employment assistance, immigration, and educational programs for youth and adults. The IRC in New York and New Jersey’s Regional Offices serve an incredibly diverse client population of over 3,000 people each year who have been affected by conflict and disaster to heal and become self-reliant, engaged citizens in NY & NJ.
