Artist Statement
I work with sculptural form, video and installation with a particular focus on implications of movement within the “still”. Inevitable in sculpture is its physical displacement of volume and its inherent stillness. I’m interested in how the three-dimensional form, in of itself, can preform the act of altering the current state of a space and movement. Much in the way that fiction acts as a marker of the real, I’m interested in utilizing actual or implied animation (through new media) in my 3-dimensional work to prod at questions about immobility and implied gesture. Alongside the issues of stillness, and in fact layered along with it, is a struggle to interpret, understand, and put into context my perplexity with human experience. Using images of the body, I try to capture poignant moments when existence is experienced in a complicated and ineffable manner.
